DOUBLE BRONZE FOR STERLING FENCER MICHAELA JOYCE AT THE KANSAS CITY NORTH AMERICAN CUP

Sterling, VA, Nov 11, 2018 – Michaela Joyce, 14, of Sterling, VA, took the bronze medals in the 14 and Under and the 17 and Under Women's Epee events at the USA Fencing North American Cup in Kansas City, MO. Michaela is a member of Cardinal Fencing Academy in Sterling, VA and has been coached by Ilya Lobanenkov since the beginning of her fencing career in 2015.


USA Fencing North American Cups are international competitions held multiple times a year to determine which fencers represent their countries at the World Championships later that year. Fencing is an Olympic and NCAA combat sport where the athlete's actions are registered on an electronic scoring machine. Epee is a point weapon, where the goals is to hit first anywhere on the body.


Michaela Joyce is currently ranked #1 in 14 and Under age category and taking the bronze medal in 16 and Under will place her among the top athletes in the country climbing the ranks to earn a spot on the USA Fencing World Championship team.
