PRESS RELEASE

DATE: 10/22/2019

Cardinal Fencing Academy (Sterling, VA) fencer Michaela Joyce (15) maintains her #1 position in the race to earn a spot on the Cadet (17 and Under) USA Fencing World Championship Team after a Silver Medal in her age category and a strong 18th place finish in the Division 1 (2020 Olympic Qualifier) fencing tournament held in Kansas City, MO.

The 2019 October North American Cup is a qualifying event for both the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and the Junior/Cadet World Championships held in Salt Lake City, UT. It is one of the toughest competitions on the planet and fields multiple World Champions and Olympic Medallists.

Michaela shared the Cadet Women's Epee podium with two other Virginia fencers: Faith Park (Bronze Medal, 15, Annandale, VA) and Hadley Husisian (Gold Medal, 16, Fairfax VA)

"Virginia's Triple Threat is rocking USA Fencing. The race is close, this is an exciting time to be a part of Cadet Women's Epee. Any one of these girls could win the World Championships should they make the team." - Said Ilya Lobanenkov, Michaela's coach and founder of Cardinal Fencing Academy.
