Silver Medal for Sterling fencer Michaela Joyce at the Heidenheim World Cup

Sterling, VA, Nov 27, 2018 – Michaela Joyce, 14, of Sterling, VA, wins silver medal at the Cadet 17 and Under World Cup in Heidenheim, Germany. Michaela is a member of Cardinal Fencing Academy in Sterling, VA and has been coached by Ilya Lobanenkov since the beginning of her fencing career in 2015.

FIE (International Fencing Federation, http://fie.org/) World Cups are competitions held multiple times a year to determine which fencers represent their countries at the World Championships later that year. Epee fencing is an Olympic and NCAA combat sport where the athlete's actions are registered on an electronic scoring machine. Epee is a point weapon, where the goals is to hit first anywhere on the body.

Michaela Joyce is currently ranked #1 in 14 and Under age category and taking the Silver medal in a 17 and Under World Cup will place her among the top athletes in the USA climbing the ranks to earn a spot on the World Championship team.
